I Get Mail- Alternate Title "Rehumanize Yourself"

I recently received an e-mail from a right-wing former co-worker- his typical e-mails are in this vein, and I usually delete before reading, though sometimes, they yield comedy gold. Well, I actually read one of his recent e-mails, and I was pretty surprised. Here is a selected part of the e-mail, in all of its dubious glory:

FOR THE SHEEP WHO FOLLOW THE FOX NETWORK MENTALITY, LISTEN TO THIS INTERVIEW.

THERE ARE ISSUES, REAL ISSUES, NOT THE UNIONS !

THANK GOD FOR THOSE PROTESTERS AT WALL STREET.

WALL STREET BROUGHT US HERE AND THEY ARE RECEIVING RECORD BONUSES !

MAYBE SOME ONE SHOULD ISSUE THE PROTESTERS SOME DILLON AEROS SO THEY CAN ANSWER BACK THE GASTAPO THAT MACE THEM!!!!!

AND FOR YOU FOX PEOPLE, IF THEY EVER RUN THAT FAT FUCK FROM NEW JERSEY, CHRIS CHRISTY, I WILL VOTE FOR OBAMA!!!!!!!! YOU HAVE MY WORD ON IT.

IT’S THE UNIONS, IT’S THE MINIMUM WAGE………AND YOU SAY THE DEMOCRATS ARE DRINKING THE KOOLAID.

THE RICH ARE INVESTING SOME WHERE OUT OF THIS COUNTRY. THEY ARE LIVING THE LIFE OF LUXURY ! THINK THEY EVEN CARE ABOUT JOBS FOR YOU?

YOU APPLY FOR FOOD STAMPS,THEY ARE IN A DILEMMA DECIDING WHAT COLOR TO
SELECT FOR THEY BENTLY.

Damn, what is it about right-wing ideology that affects one's ability to write grammatically sound sentences and use correct spelling? This guy was all about Obama bashing since 2008, and all about the teadhad since 2009. I don't know what happened to turn his ire toward these new targets, and I have to confess, anybody who thinks that this joke (you've been warned!) is funny is not really somebody with whom I want to associate. That being said, I wonder how many Teabaggers have gotten the feeling they've been cheated. I hope that some of them can find their way past their animosities (for the record, this guy refers to undocumented immigrants as "mutts") and rehumanize themselves:

Thank goodness I'm Canadian! I never get emails like that.
I'm not saying that Canada is perfect, but one thing I do enjoy is the fact that politics and religion aren't in bed with each other so much.
You don't have to go to church in order to get elected here.

Sorry, I know that your post wasn't really about that. We have our nut jobs here too. Plenty of them. ;p

The reason they are here to this extent has a lot to do with the advantage one particular party sees in encouraging and exploiting it.

As bad as the Democrats get (and they've gotten really bad), this is area of repulsiveness in which the Republicans always take the cake.

It would be surreal if all the Teabaggers suddenly became anti-Wall Street. Surreal.

Actually, VS, it wouldn't surprise me too much. For forty years, they have been taught to hate, to vehemently blame all their problems on The Other - taught by corporate and conservative media.

Now, they are getting older and things are still terrible, getting worse; the hippies are gone, African-Americans are not the Black Panthers anymore, and it has turned out their grandson is gay and his boyfriend can fix their car.

They are lashing out blindly, trying to find a target. Any target will do.

It becomes a race to see if they settle on the Repubs and the Banksters before Murdoch/Fox and Goldman Sachs can redirect them in a different direction.

Of course, while they do, the world continues to jerk toward destruction like a poorly made wind up robot lurching into a woodchipper.

2 Things:

First, the GOP historically got the American Christianists over abortion policy. But the key fact is the overwhelming acceptance of the Bible as the literal word of god among Americans. Depending on who you ask, upwards of 65%. That's a real outlier among national populations in 2011. It gives whoever is willing to exploit it a gigantic cult-like presence with a proven willingness to suspend disbelief or skepticism.

Second, the American system of governance has utterly collapsed, with the kind of ideologically divided parties you find in parliamentary systems, but in a bi-cameral legislative system with a powerful executive and dozens of veto points.

At this point, it doesn't matter whether you are a commie or a tea bagger, the fact that NO acts of governance can be accomplished, and the fact that all you get is the status quo and a sinking economy leaving good americans and socialists alike in bad shape, you have laid the groundwork for an unusually broad rebellion...

Just to add something really dumb to this intelligent conversation...
I love the words "fat fuck" together. I'm not sure why but, I laugh myself silly every time I hear it.

Okay, I'll let the smart people talk again. :)

Laura: Alas, these people live in Canada too. If you've ever listened to private Ottawa talk radio, well, don't. Also, Ezra Levant.

Oh, I know that they are here too. I'm just saying they don't have the same voice or strength as they seem to in the U.S.
To me, religion and politics entwined is much less now than it was 20 to 30 years ago in Canada.

Canadians just don't get themselves worked up.(unless you screw with hockey then watch out cause we'll make commercials about missing hockey so much we can barely function)... Which is a good and bad thing. ;)

A couple of factors enter into the absurd influence of evangelical protestantism on American politics- the only reason why "Southern Baptists" exist is because other Baptist congregations opposed slavery, so there is a racial element. There's also the "know-nothing" anti-immigration, anti-Catholic movement (although ultra-conservative Catholics have made an unholy alliance with evangelicals over the abortion issue, and now the gay rights issue). Finally, the Republican party made an outreach effort to the Christian right in the 1970s.
