Fighting Despondency, Fighting Hopelessness, Fighting

It's tough not to be a little freaked out about the current state of U.S. politics and the economy. Yeah, lefties, the president is channeling Hoover rather than F.D.R., the G.O.P.'s dirty tactics have descended to new lows. It's hard to muster any enthusiasm whatsoever for a cack-handed, gormless party. Yeah, it's time for a boost- how about a song which kept me largely sane during the Bush administration? I blasted My Country by New Model Army while pounding the be-jeebers out of a heavy bag.

Yeah, we can't afford to be despondent. All of us have to make sure that there's no rest for the wicked, even those of us who are young, gifted, and skint. Courage, good people, courage!

UPDATE: Do I even have to tell you to blast this at full volume? For those of you unfamiliar with the song (SHAME!!!), the lyrics are straightforward- this one's an anthem, a chant.

I always thought the Bush years were going to provide a resurgence of punk agitation, but perhaps Democrat suckitude is the catalyst.

Thanks for the linky.

I think the closest we got to that punk agitation was a handful of underground bands like Radio 4, which never got commercial radio airplay.

What's the attitude like on the streets of Fonzietown (ducks)?

I am flabbergasted at the fact that a couple years of Democratic corporate whorbdom erased the epic gains earned from all the suffering inflicted by Bush and Cheney.

It's unforgivable. And the corporatists are stepping on the accelerator.

So yeah, we can't give up. But we need to figure out who we are fighting against, and how to do it.

I think it's because the propaganda mill runs 24/7, and a lot of people sat out the 2010 elections. I think the real problem for 2012 is that BHO may have turned off a lot of first-time voters who will tune out (combined with the very real efforts of right-wingers to disenfranchise typical Democratic voters).

So yeah, we can't give up. But we need to figure out who we are fighting against, and how to do it.

The D.O.J. really needs to look into these election-stealing schemes. Also, investigations into Newscorp chicanery would help to derail Fox. Unfortunately, the Pres. really isn't interested in self-preservation, much less fighting for the little guy.

Those first-time voters are the ones who didn't come back in 2010, although the national party shamelessly tries to blame liberals instead. But we ALWAYS vote.

Now he's lost me. I can't vote for this asshole again. You think we can trust him when he says we've ended torture? I don't.

And as all the news bloviators spin the debt ceiling deal as a loss for "the Left", it is really a loss for old people, poor people, and unemployed people. The people the Joe Kleins of the world don't notice, because they all look like ants from where he sits.

Rallying around a national Democratic party that openly despises me and the things I believe in is no longer an option.

Have you ever thought of running for office? I'm not being facetious. Thom Hartmann always talks about taking the party back from the corporatists. It's a fucking conundrum.

I have. No idea where to start.

I'm kind of the anti-speechgiver, BBBB.

That gift of gab thing skipped me over, although I guess I got some math abilities as a consolation prize.

Actually, I am pretty good at explaing why things are good, and at presenting them to the public. I am, however, really crappy at sucking up to moneybags, and as such, wallowing in the dregs of my career.

so there

Well, that's a great song and I'm ashamed to say, I've never heard it before. However, I am Canadian (eh?) so, perhaps you will accept that excuse??? Non?

I started out in my own little (mummyblog) corner of the blogasphere and somehow ended up here! I'm blaming ifthethunder..... I have to admit the title of your blog intrigued me as I'm married to a (not big but)(oh and not bad either but).. bald bastard (well, maybe not a bastard but he is bald) man. I loves me a bald head. :P
I thought that it would be rude of me to sit here this long and not at least say "Hello"!

Take care!

Hi Laura.

Back on topic, I'm so discouraged right now I don't know what I'm going to do politically.

Look for a way out of the country, maybe.

Hi, Laura! Always nice to hear from a new reader. If only my Latvian fan base would post comments, I'd be ecstatic!

Thunder's pretty much the heart of this little blogocracy, he always posts great comments on other people's blogs and is very supportive- I pretty much stole my blogroll from him.

Thanks for commenting, and as far as the head goes, some people dig it. Some people dig it a lot.
