Birthday Greetings, Baby Brother

Today marks the anniversary of the birth of Gomez, my baby brother. He's spending his natal day in the greater Kandahar metropolitan area. I'll follow up with another post, but I just wanted to acknowledge baby bro, and to send him my best wishes.

He's built like a brick shithouse and has his hair.

And as sweet as his older brother?

He's a teddy bear.

Actually, my brother's nickname has a long and convoluted derivation. When he was young, was a slightly built little elf of a kid. He had a really bad bout with appendicitis, after which he gained a lot of weight. My smartass sister started ribbing him about having a "spare tire", and she had just learned that goma was Spanish for tire. There was a brief period during which she called him "Goma" or "Gomasaurus", but "Gomez" became the standardized form. He doesn't have the "spare tire" anymore- he's an avid ice hockey player. He's been very magnanimous about the whole nickname business, and most people don't even know the derivation of the nym.

Happy birfday, Gomez!!!!

I have to say, I love mean sibling nicknames. Maybe it's because I've never had one. :)

My younger brother took to calling my youngest brother "Gravy Boat" when he got chubby. He didn't have a medical condition as an excuse, though. He and his friends just held chocolate milk drinking races at lunch every day.
