Wallflower

Last night, I found this funny little critter, and played an amusing game of peek-a-boo with it (I was more amused than it was, I am sorry to say):

The eastern chipmunk is a pretty little ground-dwelling sciurid which has adapted successfully to life in a semi-urban environment. The lichens, mutualistic mash-ups of algae and fungi, are good indicators of decent air quality in the vicinity, being sensitive to airborn toxins.

So. Chipmunk stew?

They're gamy & stringy, & it takes a lot of them to feed more than one.

Yes!

Chipped chipmunk on toast.

Slow cook them for optimal results!

Hey, BBBB -

we didn't get to Gowanus exactly. I rode the G train over the canal today while going to 7th Avenue to meet an old friend.

But the real deal was yesterday - we took your suggestion about Ferdinando's, and went there. We thought we'd eat and then explore Red Hook, but by the time we finished eating, the rain was unbelievable so we went back home.

But we DID get to eat at Ferdinando's - it was awesome. I have to thank you for the find - we want to go back again - not sure with our schedule we can do it, but I'm going to try. I'll post about what we had.
