Happy Canadian Flag Day!

The little wall calendar in the office tells me that today is Canadian Flag Day. I am going to take a moment to thank all of my Canadian blogroll members for being so awesome, whether they are troll-slapping snarkmeisters, smokin' hot apron models, mother-lovin' motherlovers, earthbound demigods with enticingly large foreheads, or nerdlicious residents of Whitebreadville. Thank you, Canadians! Thank you for the gracious good sense that leads backpackers from the U.S. to sport your flag on their Eastpaks. Thank you for your delicious, carbohydrate-laden gutbombs... so good when you're drunk as a skunk. Thank you for your warmth and good humor. Here's to you, my dear Canuckistani friends! I will celebrate your flag day by drinking a Bloody Caesar and blasting your national anthem, which I'm pretty sure is Aldo Nova's Fantasy:

Stay awesome, northern neighbors!

UPDATE: Fixed a link, even though I think jim looks hot in an apron.

  3. What the fuck? We have a flag day? That's not very Canadian at all. I'm a-gin' it.

On Flag Day in 2007, New Democratic Party Member of Parliament Peggy Nash introduced a private member's bill to make Flag Day a federal statutory holiday

    My mind could be changed.

I'm pretty sure that I'm the smokin hot apron model but for some reason, I seem to be linked up to a jim?? This will NEVER do.

  7. Hey B4,

Totally off topic but I wanted to thank you and Steerpike for turning me on to Gormenghast. I just finished Titus Alone. I had heard some rumblings about that one but I thought it was really great and did fit in with the overall theme, etc. Anyhow, I'm going to scour my Calibre collection (>5K books from a friend) and see what to tackle next.

Any excuse for a day off!

    Up the Canucks!!

    Up the Canucks' what?

ha, ha! aldo nova...that's a good one...

I thought someone would get a kick out of that!

    Meanwhile, back in the States...

Good to see the Dolls' fans coming out of the woodwork!

Awesome books, no? I love the glorious descriptive prose. I think the big problem most people have with Titus Alone is the glaring intrusion of Muzzlehatch's car. My only real beef with it is that it lacks the most interesting character, the castle itself. Also, Muzzlehatch is really just a poor Flay substitute.

Got any Jack Vance in that collection?

  13. I wasn't put off by the intrusion of modern devices like cars and helicopters. Thought it was pretty cool. I did find Muzzlehatch a bit lacking too. Still a great finish to the series, esp. when you consider Peake's condition.

I'm on to Vance next. Think I'll hit up Dying Earth series first.

These are delightful sentences. I'm going to memorize them and then just throw them into random conversations.
