A Dangerous Mockery

In my Friday post, I wrote a paragraph which is now coming to the forefront of my mind:

Because we live in a post-truth society, with the COVID-Conman being Chief Prevaricator, I'm not sure I believe that he's tested positive. He lies about everything, what would stop him from claiming to have contracted the virus, then claiming a miraculous cure in order to downplay the severity of the disease? I kinda hate that this has even popped into my mind.

The reason why this paragraph is haunting me is this tweet from COVID Commander:

To say that I am appalled is an understatement. How dangerous is this statement? Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!

This is going to get people killed. The realization that most of them will be people gullible and nasty enough to believe him is small consolation. We have developed some really great drugs and knowledge, but they won't be available to Joe and Flo Schmo. The average American doesn't have a security team to whisk them away to a six-room hospital suite, and doesn't have a medical team ready to inject them with experimental drugs. If a ordinary American contracts this virus, they stand a good chance of dying, and if they survive, they stand a good chance of permanent impairment.

Even worse, a right-wing flack has wirtten a paean to Trump which has fed his ego in the worst way possible:

Now Trump actually believes the 'God Emperor' meme. I doubt it will effect the polls at all, but this sort of hagiography is dangerous when applied to a malignant narcissist who has always bought into his own hype. 'Invincible warrior', my ass!

The craziest thing about it is that Trump, if he actually has the virus, isn't out of the soup yet. He'll be running on the premise that having contracted COVID-19 is an advantage over Biden... the talking point will be that Trump's individual victory over the disease somehow trumps his public defeat in the fight. Back in March, I predicted that a half-million Americans would die of this thing before it runs its course, and now I think I was overly optimistic. I've always thought that Trump was a dangerous, corrupt moron, but I didn't realize the depths of his depravity.

The Dark Meatloaf Night of the Soul

Longtime readers will know that, of all of the politicians in these here United States, I find Chris Christie among the most contemptible. He's a despicable bully who used the power of the state to punish perceived enemies, and left his underlings, also despicable, to suffer the legal consequences. For a brief period of time, in 2015, during a brief presidential campaign, he tried to sound like the now-extinct moderate Northeastern Republican, but he quickly threw his lot in with Trump when he saw the direction his dyfunctional party was heading. After dropping his presidential campaign, Christie had a brief flirtation with being a Never Trumper until he lost his guts, became a typical Republican once again, and threw in his lot with Trump. After returning to the fold and getting behind Trump, Christie was publicly humiliated during a White House luncheon with his terrible boss:

Meatloaf Night is supposed to be a joyous occasion, not a source of shame and angst. Christie, the quintessential 'Phony Soprano' style Jersey bully, ran up to an even bigger Tri-State Asshole and caved in the most shameful fashion. Earlier this year, in May after the novel coronavirus had already ravaged New York and New Jersey, Christie toed the Trump line about the COVID-19 outbreak in a most repulsive manner, stating that businesses should be reopened because there would be deaths anyway

And now here we are, three years after the Meatloaf Incident, when a subservient Christie, a bundle of comorbidities, has tested positive for COVID-19 after helping Trump with a maskless debate prep. Christie completely rolled over for Trump back in 2016, and he might keel over for Trump in 2020. When he said 'there would be deaths', did he envision that he might be one of the dead? Oh, well, he wouldn't be the first New Jersey fixture that Trump destroyed

I hope that meatloaf was delicious.

I Can Come up with a Conspiracy Theory Too

The fever swamp denizens who believe COVID-19 is a hoax have ideas about why Trump is in Walter Reed, and they are a doozy: I can play the conspiracy theory game too! I propose that Barron Trump, boy genius, manipulated his father and three eldest siblings into contracting the 'rona so he can grab all of the family assets and liquidate them before his deadbeat dad's debts come due. He will then put the money in an offshore account, emigrate to Slovenia, and become a lounge lizard. It's as plausible as any other account of this turdnado.

Some Hoax, Huh?

I don't believe in karma... the Western pop-culture conception of karma is merely wishful thinking that the universe is just, and it neglects the connection between karma and the dharma which determines it- if one's dharma is to steal candy from babies, then stealing candy from babies is good karma, at any rate, it decreases their chances of developing tooth decay and type two diabetes. Yeah, I don't believe in karma, as appealing as the pop-conception of it is. As the late Phil Chevron, a wiser man than I, put it: "Wise men are beggared while fools are crowned. Evil's afloat and the lowly ones drown." That being said, there are moments when the universe seems to attain sentience, when a villain actually suffers repercussions for his malfeasance:

Why it wasn't that long ago that this thing would just go away, wasn't it?

Because we live in a post-truth society, with the COVID-Conman being Chief Prevaricator, I'm not sure I believe that he's tested positive. He lies about everything, what would stop him from claiming to have contracted the virus, then claiming a miraculous cure in order to downplay the severity of the disease? I kinda hate that this has even popped into my mind.

At any rate, I wish Trump and his entire adult nuclear family a long life, with years spent behind bars. Every time the notion that he might croak from COVID-19, the deadly disease he downplayed back before the world stopped, crosses my mind, the words of John Doe and Exene Cervenka come to mind:

Words to live by in these cruel, debased days, even when applied to a cruel, debased despot.

ADDENDUM:  This Twitter thread is PURE COMEDY GOLD!

Cyberbiden

A couple of posts ago, I wrote about the Trump fans' accusations that Biden would use performance enhancing drugs in the upcoming debate with their God-Emperor. Well, those relatively mundane conspiracy theories now pale in comparison with the more outré theories about Biden being electronically enhanced. First off, we have the relatively normal notion that Biden had a wire feeding him audio information: The more exotic idea is that Biden was wearing Augmented Reality contact lenses that projected information through his pupils: The idea of a Cyberbiden has an undeniable appeal: If the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 doesn't come out with a Scranton expansion pack, I will be most upset. I can't wait 'til Kamala Harris reveals her retractable razor nails.

Interminable, Insufferable

I watched it, I watched the whole damn thing- that stupid excuse for a presidential debate. I'll admit it, I mixed up two pint-sized szarlotkas to make the viewing less of an ordeal... the first was one-third vodka, two-thirds apple juice, the second was half-and-half. Sure, I got a buzz, but it didn't help. The main takeaways from the debate are that Trump constantly talked over Biden and that Chris Wallace is a shitty moderator. The mics used for these debates should be on timers- after the alloted two minutes, they should simply shut off... we have the technology. I wish Biden had been a little more barbed, ready with snappy comebacks to Trump's lies and distortions. It was cathartic to hear Biden tell Trump to shut up and to hear him call Trump the worst president that America has ever had: The most surreal moment of the debate was when Trump accused Biden of a disastrous handling of the H1N1 flu outbreak, with 14K deaths, to the current COVID-19 pandemic, with over 211K deaths and counting: At least he followed this up with a zinger about Trump's disastrous COVID-19 prognostications: Trump's response was a failure- one does not make sarcastic statements about a deadly pathogen. It was also nice to hear Biden call Trump a clown, especially given Trump's excessive application of facepaint that night: Perhaps Biden's best line of the night was 'get out of your bunker, get out of your sandtrap', highlighting both Trump's cowardice and his Marie Antoinette/Emperor Nero response to a crisis:

It was a terrible debate, and the general consensus is that it was a Scheißeanzeigen, and I'm sure it didn't change any minds. I can't imagine that the next two proposed debates will be any better... at least I'll have time to restock my supply of Żubrówka.

ADDENDUM: I forgot to mention the elephant in the room, Donald Trump's exhortation for a right-wing gang to 'stand back and stand by'. Luckily, last weekend, with three and a half weeks of preparation, a national muster of these assholes couldn't assemble more than three-hundred or so in Portland:

As ugly as it might get, we outnumber these creeps... vastly.

Accusations of Cheating Before the Game Has Started

The Republican line of attack on Joe Biden has been that he's old and senile, hiding in a basement (this is a weird detail, the guy presumably has at least one comfortable residence with multiple rooms). At tonight's debate, though, Trump will be facing the real Joe Biden, rather than the right-wing cartoon version of the man, which bodes ill for the abysmally stupid Donald. Already, the right-wing noise machine is claiming that Biden will use some sort of chicanery to defeat the infallible God-Emperor. So far, we have claims (originated by conspiracy asshole Jerome Corsi) that Biden has received the debate questions in advance, though if Biden were a doddering dotard, how would he remember those questions. There is also the bizarre notion that Biden will be wearing an earpiece so he can be coached during the debate. The longest-running conspiracy theory regarding the upcoming debate is that Biden has been taking performance-enhancing drugs since the primary debates, an accusation echoed by Trump's whacko White House doctor. I was convinced that Biden was taking Alex Jones' Brain Force Plus, with lead: I now realize that I got it wrong, and that Biden will probably eat a kid before the debate: Yeah, nothing beats the performance-enhancing power of sweet, sweet adrenochrome... It seems clear to me that the Republicans know that Biden will wipe the debate stage with Trump tonight, so the excuses/accusations are flying thick and fast. It's a stupid runup to what promises to be an exceedingly stupid night.
