Site Overseer

While it seems like the human world is imploding, the planet goes on as usual,,, the birds have returned, the daffodils have been in bloom for a while, the pond is alive with amorous amphibians. I recently caught a glimpse of a beautiful red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) on a tree branch overlooking the pond:

SQUIRRELS BEWARE!

Times are stressful, and it's nice to be able to take solace in nature. I am fortunate enough to work in a site with a good deal of green space, where the neighbors are lovely.

Beautiful bird! You really do have a very special work environment (though it looks damn cold!)

While we're not out in the bush, we're lucky our suburban house has a garden, and the spousal unit has worked hard to make it attractive to native birds and wildlife (just about the only house in the street which offers trees and flowering plants for them.) The weather up until the last couple of days has been tantalisingly lovely and warm, and we have been gifted with many butterflies and lots of birds who like to scold our cats who are kept within their cat run for the safety of said birds.

Sometimes we look up and see white-bellied sea eagles, and there are always black and sulphur-crested cockatoos making a racket. Plovers are very common on the streets too, and like to play chicken with the cars :(

I know we're fortunate to have so much. We try not to take it for granted.

It's good that you've provided an environment for the critters. Well-tended lawns are a disaster, ecologically.
