Another day in 'Murka, another mass shooting. This time, the shooter was a guy who was dishonorably discharged from the Air Force, though CNN reporter Dianne Gallagher indicated that he was able to purchase a firearm even though his dishonorable discharge should have prevented him from doing so:
Official says Kelley checked box to indicate he didn’t have any disqualifying criminal history on background paperwork
He checked a box on a form... just fucking great. He was dishonorably discharged, but his gun purchase was done on the honor system?
UPDATE: Predictably, the shooter's court-martial was for domestic violence, yet another case of the link between domestic violence and domestic terrorism.
I predict that the NRA's fingerprints will be somewhere on these pathetic regulations and or their enforcement. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteLet's not go chasing the rat down the rathole here - worrying about how a guy acquired a gun that he later used to murder dozens of people is like worrying about treating someone for the flu when they have a sucking chest wound.
ReplyDeleteLook. America is AWASH in guns. You can't swing a bullet-riddled cat without hitting guns. Buying guns is easier than buying health insurance. This idiot snuck past the system - it's a bureacracy based on databases, and you can always try it that way.
But why bother. You buy guns from PEOPLE, not from stores, and nobody cares. It's a private sale. I have violent felony convictions and I have never had any trouble buying any and all guns I want, from handguns to hunting rifles to more tactical implementations.
We really need to focus here. The problem we need to address is AVAILABILITY. We have to work around our stupid and ridiculous 2nd amendment, but we don't need to ban anything. We need to make them more expensive. The constitution says you have a right to own a gun, but you also have a right to own a Ferrari - there's no constitutional guarantee you'll be able to afford one.
But being outraged that a guy can get his mitts on a gun is so pointless and silly. Make them scarce and expensive and just like that, lots of people are out of the shooting people business...
