New York Values, Revisted

Back in January, I wrote a post on Ted Cruz' New York Values crack. In light of the fact that Ted Cruz won zero delegates from New York and lost to non-candidate Ben Carson in some counties, I figured I'd revisit that subject. Texan and blogroll member Nasreen Iqbal, in a comment on Monday's post, noted that Ted Cruz has pretty much been a big no-show regarding the needs of New Yorkers:

In other news, I have survived Houston's third major flood in less than a year. After the last one - last Memorial Day - Sentaor Cruz stood behind and verbally supported our mayor in asking for federal disaster assistance. He had opposed that for Hurricane Sandy, a storm with the good sense to hit a place other than Texas.

Yep, Ted Cruz opposed federal relief after Superstorm Sandy, while asking for federal relief after flooding in his home state. He also voted against the Zadroga Act, which sets aside funds for the medical expenses of 9/11 first responders who were exposed to a toxic cloud that Republican Christine Todd Whitman insisted was safe. New Yorkers never forget, so Cruz was pretty much DOA from the get-go in New York, even with his recent stupid ads running against Bill De Blasio.

An integral ingredient of New York values is our support for each other when the chips are down. If you fuck with one New Yorker, you fuck with all of this. Ted Cruz, in a very real sense, fucked with New Yorkers in need with his votes against federal aid paid for with taxes which New York pays to Washington in excess of monies received.

New Yorkers help each other, we also help others, such as Texans... you don't see any of our senators blocking federal aid to states with GOP representatives. Once again, I'll take our New York values over anything that creepy sociopath Ted Cruz espouses.

  1. He's alienated his fellow Republican Senators. His statements during his run for President have proven his grasp of the Constitution (most specifically federalism) isn't as good as we'd expect of such a sharp legal mind.

And he's not going to be President.

This might be top of the mountain for a thoroughly dislikable character.

I'm sure my home state will make 12 more just like him, though! :)

  2. I'm hoping that in the remaining primaries that Greasy Rat gets stomped, hard. I remember the votes against aid for Sandy victims, and begging for aid for Houston victims; if that doesn't encapsulate the reactionary winger mindset, I don't know what does.

  3. Meh. Certainly no one is surprised by anything that Cruz, Inhofe, Ryan, McConnell et al say or do, are they? They are on an endless loop since the Gingrich 'revolution' set the stage for the party to adopt 'mean spirited' as a core platform plank. I quite even paying attention to them a few years ago - I can perfectly predict what they will do and say in any given situation. They don't care about taxes - they care about upward redistribution of wealth. They don't care about abortion - they just need voters other than the 1%. White male supremacy is the only social value they hold - otherwise it's all about pushing wealth from the poor and middle class to the very wealthy, and supplying ridiculous, illogical justifications for those policies.

In that sense TRump has been a breath of fresh air, a ray of sunshine on a dark, rotting place. He's lying too, but he's not lying to support the redistribution of wealth - he's lying to actually support the social values, the white male supremacy and the mean spiritedness that constituency feels toward the 'other'. He called out the party leadership on their core hypocrisy - something neither the Democrats or the media have been capable of doing for decades. He said to the people "hey, these other candidates don't really care about what YOU care about - they just need your votes so they can implement an agenda that is actually antithetical to your well being. I, on the other hand, will do all the things you talk about in your living rooms and back yards and can't say in public anymore".

Serves the bastards right, and makes the wingnuts worth watching again. They're going to have to choose sides this fall, and they're going to have to re-evaluate their entire platform and message after November. All while enduring the worst (to them) possible outcome - a Hillary Clinton Presidency.

    Gack! You should consider running...

Yup, I think he'll get stomped hard, principally because the Party really doesn't want a contested nomination, no matter what establishment figures say in public.

Yeah, but there's so much collateral damage, like climate change and environmental degradation, that even the extremely wealthy won't be able to escape from for long.

The bit about Trump embodying the id of the culture warriors is spot on- it'll be interesting to see how the rank-and-file react to the Establishment if they decide to ratfuck 'the Donald'.

  5. Cruz is pretty gross. Even Jenghazi Rubin is starting to give up on him.

(She's getting closer and closer to endorsing Hillary. No need to wonder why.)
