Today is mom's birthday. She's doing really well- her health is excellent and she is enjoying her retirement. She is spending the week at my baby brother Gomez' house, a mere two hour drive from her place.
Mom's health and happiness are a testament to an active life, and an emphasis on opening her heart and her home to others. She looks twenty years younger than the age on her driver's license, and has enough energy to put to shame people half her age.
I'm convinced she'll outlast me... Happy birthday, mom!
happy birthday to your mother - long may she wave
ReplyDeletewith regard to the chance she may outlast you - why not improve your lifestyle to reduce the chance of that happening?
as sad as it is to bury a parent, burying a child is worse (so i heard from my grandfather, with respect to my mother - she had been a cigarette addict and died of lung cancer at the age of 60)
i am currently re-reading roger landry's book live long, die short - about strategies for compression of morbidity - generally speaking, you know these already, but it doesn't hurt to be reminded and encouraged
Hippo Biridie to your mom, B^4!
ReplyDelete~
No no no, don't let her outlive you. Oh, now I see mistah c., ph.d is already on it. What he says.

ReplyDeleteNot to worry, I am healthy as a horse, eat a varied diet and maintain a decent amount of physical activity. I don't think I'll die young at all, but I'm convinced that mom will hit triple digits.

Indeed!

Thanks for your concern... I never knew you were so sentimental. **sniff**
Happy birthday to your mom! I hope she has a great day (there’s only a couple of hours of it left where I am, but they could still be fab).
ReplyDeleteAs my brother said to my mom and dad (80 & 90 respectively) at Christmas: "I don't care if you leave me anything in your will as long as you leave me your genes."

ReplyDeleteShe makes sure every hour is fab... it's what she does.

Good way of looking at things.
