Hating the New Interface
Just about five months after I rejected the new "Blogger" interface, the new Blogger interface is back. C'mon, Google, why the hell are you doing this to me?
If it wasn't bad enough to have this ugly interface, I attempted to add another blogger to my blogroll, and the entire "front page" was altered. The look was completely different... it was like I was a newbie on my own goddamn blog. To compound matters, MY BELOVED BLOGROLL WAS MISSING!!! All my lovely compatriots, in limbo. My beautiful bloggerhood, leveled. I was able to get the old look, and my blogroll, back, but I'm composing this post on an ugly interface, a bland white screen with some orange "buttons"... and I actually dig the orange-and-white color scheme most of the time.
So, now I have to figure out how to get back the old interface or, barring that, figuring out how to add to my blogroll without muffing up the "front page".
I think I shall now throw a tantrum.
All my lovely compatriots, in limbo.
ReplyDeleteSome of us have always been in limbo.
O. Wait. You said 'compatriots'. my mistake.

ReplyDeleteWell, setting aside the somewhat awkward HTML generation, which actually DOES seem to be a few years behind the state of the art, one of the keys I always recommend to Blogger users is this:
ReplyDeleteUnder NO circumstances ever, EVER try to use their editor. Write and edit your posts in your editor of choice (I'm a prolific GDocs user) and when you are ready to publish it paste it in, and click the orange button...
I went through this earlier this year. In order to keep my blogroll, I had to accept the new design. Feh.
ReplyDeleteJ Neo, there was an option under your name in the top right corner that you could reach by clicking the gear symbol: "Revert to old interface".
ReplyDeleteNow it's gone, because they're assholes.

Actually, in terms of facts having a somewhat liberal bias, supporting two different UIs and clickstreams is an unreasonable expectation. You can be unhappy with the UI they present, but it is unreasonable to expect them to support a UI they consider obsolete, in parallel with the current distro, just because you don't like it...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the warning. I won't be adding any of you people to my bog-roll then.
ReplyDeleteUse the HTML editor. It's fine. Haven't checked out the settings yet though...
ReplyDeleteI haven't had any trouble with mine but I guess I switched over months back (Aprilish?). Actually, I think they did the switching for me.
ReplyDeleteThank god you didn't lose all of us peeps! How would you ever find us again? :( ;p
((Hugs))

You should come to the Dark Side. And by Dark Side I mean Word Press.
ReplyDeleteListen, if you switch to WP, it gives you license to say "fuck" a lot. THINK ABOUT IT.

ReplyDeleteZombies are in "limbs-oh!"

ReplyDeleteYou must have danced the limbo at the zombie jamboree.

Could be worse, could be JS-KIT.

I've had pretty good luck so far- if I have a really long post to compose, I will sometimes use Open Office's word processor, but I usually just type shorter posts directly into Blogger.

I used Thunder's workaround to avoid it, but that's no longer an option.

Can you find the secret wayback machine this time, old chum?

Yeah, it's not like they give a crap about a couple of luddite wannabees.

Why, you little!

I hope there's no problem with animated gifs...

I made damn sure I could find my way back to the neighborhood.

IIRC ZRM has a copy of Limb-0.

ReplyDeleteYour memory is astounding, old chum. Remind me never to slight you, the vengeance would be served well-chilled indeed!
