Romneyo and Newtiet

I think the Newt Gingrich/Mitt Romney campaign is the most mutually destructive relationship since that of (the admitted fictional, but are Newt and Mitt real, genuine human beings?) Romeo and Juliet. Like the star-cross'd lovers of the Bard of Avon's tragedy, Mitt and Newt seem bent on a path to mutual destruction. Unlike the hapless, loveable Romeo and Juliet, Romneyo and Newtiet's (insert "Crapulet" joke) destruction is not a tragedy... although the fact that they are the frontrunners in a political primary surely is. The 2012 GOP presidential campaign is one long, extended tragicomedy. It just remains to be seen if Romneyo supporter Suredoucheyo survives the third act.

Two campaigns, both alike in perfidy,
In fair Amurka, where we lay our scene...

This post is an elaboration of a comment I posted at T&U's place.

  1. Hmmm. This old woman subscribes to the idea that "Romeo and Juliet" is a comedy because puppy love is just that stupid and embarrassingly melodramatic. Which still works for Newt and Mitt, kinda. Unless there is a grueling comedy about two clouds competing to lose the presidency written by Shakespeare.

  3. It's actually hard for me to watch these two guys go at it because there is no good guy here. They're both incredibly repulsive. Romney is repulsive because he actually thinks he is a special snowflake who made it on his own, even though he's always been filthy rich...and Newt Gingrich is just, well, racist. Honestly, when I look at the Rethuglican debates I just start to feel so dejected.

  4. As you know, I don't follow American politics closely. I get most of my news from "all, y'all".
Frankly, I don't watch a lot of news period because they always stick some murdered child story and I totally cannot handle that. I'm the kind of person that needs good news. So, I take frequent breaks.

I do, of course, know who these guys are. I just don't trust guys with hair like theirs. As I like to say whenever someone says something to my husband about being bald.. "You can't have hair AND brian's both". Those two have far too much hair.

And those are my ver-eh smart thoughts for today. :)

I dunno, out of the whole cast, it seems like Romeo and Juliet are the only sane ones- it's the older members of the families who continue their feud that are the stupid ones.

That's why I'm rooting for mutual destruction, and they'll hopefully take their whole racist, reactionary, homophobic, fundamentalist, anti-science (we could go on here) party down in flames with them.

I can understand, only problem is that these awful people are your neighbors... I apologize for this.

There are some smart people with hair, but we brainy baldies get to show off our enticingly large noggins.
