Sturgeon knew what he was talking about, he was a science fiction author.

One book that I can suggest without reservation is The Space Merchants... it'll simultaneously make you laugh and want to bang your head against your desk.

Big Bad Bald Bastardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01983025559556548658noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8526498499129692237.post-83077328754726197242016-04-07T23:39:00.656-04:002016-04-07T23:39:00.656-04:00I don't read a lot of science fiction, but sti...I don't read a lot of science fiction, but still, I am amazed at the foresight and, well, power it has had.

I read a biography of a guy named Jack Whiteside Parsons last year. He invented jet fuel in the 1st half of the 20th century, but he basically got interested in rockets because of science fiction (or "scientifiction" as it was called at the time.

Rockets were apparently only an interest of scientifiction fans back then, so much so that when he invented his rocket fuel, he had to call it jet fuel to be respected.

That same scene produced L. Ron Hubbard, a guy who took his science fiction interests and went a different direction.

I'm not sure what it is that creates such vision in that crowd but it's really wild. I'll look up Doris. Your recommendations are always good. Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06856160423100846727noreply@blogger.com
